Margaret Irwin West
After taking her primary degree in languages at Trinity College, Dublin, Margaret Irwin West chose to train as a painter at the studio of Andre L'Hote in Paris. In Dublin in the 1950s, she exhibited regularly with exhibtions including Irish Exhibition of Living Art; Oireachtais.
Since her retirement from teaching in 1991, Margaret has been living in Claddaghduff, North Connemara and working in her chosen medium of Etching, as well as Painting in her Studio. Her imagery is mostly figurative and drawn from observation. Much of it refers to the Early Christian and Prehistoric sites which abound in the area.
Work for sale.
Much of the work on this site is available for sale with the exception of those in the Early Work and Post 1991 galleries. The etched pieces can take a number of weeks to prepare as each relevant plate which must be re-printed from scratch. However, a selection of work is immediatly available and these may be found in the "Ready to go" gallery. Margaret also accepts commissions for clients requiring work on a particular subject. Price will vary with size of edition and size of etching.
